Have you met David Lalor

Big ups to David Lalor. This guy’s the real deal in fintech right now. Born in a tiny Irish village, he’s gone from there to crushing it in Silicon Valley. No joke. He started out super young, building Virra Marketing when he was just 16, and dude pulled in half a million bucks a year. That’s crazy for a 16-year-old, right? Shows he’s always been about that hustle and not afraid to jump in and make shit happen.

He studied Computer Science and Economics at Stanford-big name, big creds, but he dropped out. Why? Because he saw an even bigger opportunity with his own startup, Swift. Launched it in 2023 with his co-founder Rakeeb Hossain, and now they’re in the YC W24 batch. Swift is all about embedded finance and instant international payments for online merchants. Basically, they’re trying to replace the old, slow, bullshit correspondent banking system with a single API that makes sending money across borders instant and risk-free. That’s a big change, especially for e-commerce dudes who need fast, reliable cash flows.

Before Swift, David was an engineer at Intercom, so he’s got the tech chops, but he’s also a legit entrepreneur. He’s been into web design since forever-was even nominated for 7 eir Junior Spiders awards-and he’s served as Head of Tech & Finance at Virra Marketing. Plus, he’s no stranger to the spotlight. He’s on the Irish Digital Youth Council and has been on Today FM and Irish TV talking about startups and tech. Basically, he’s passionate about not just building cool shit, but also inspiring others.

Now he’s based in San Francisco, but he’s still got that Irish hustle running through his veins. His process’s all about jumping into big problems early and not being afraid to drop the security blanket of conventional paths. He’s the perfect example of someone who’s always chasing that future trend, and it’s paying off. Swift’s aiming to disrupt a massive industry – international finance – and David’s the guy leading the charge.

Bottom line? David Lalor is a young gun who’s crushed early success, dropped everything to chase his vision, and is now building something that could totally reshape how online merchants move money across borders. No cap, this guy’s just getting started, and if you ask me, he’s the kind of founder to watch.
