Meet Ryan Williams
Shoutout to Ryan Williams. Dude’s one of those guys who saw a problem and just jumped into fixing it. So, he went to Yale, right? Smart kid, but what really kicks off his story is his time on Wall Street. He worked at Goldman Sachs and Credit Suisse, both top-tier finance firms. But here’s the thing: Ryan wasn’t just crunching numbers. At Goldman, he was involved in recruiting diverse talent, and that’s where the light bulb went off.
After years of working in finance, he realized there’s a huge disconnect between big companies and underrepresented talent, especially Black, Latino, and Native American folks who weren’t getting the opportunities they deserved. So, in 2014, he and his buddy Porter Braswell co-founded Jopwell. Think of it like a LinkedIn for minorities trying to get into big jobs. The goal? Connect these talented folks with companies that want to diversify and do better.
What’s crazy is, Ryan left Wall Street, which is no joke, to chase this startup dream. That’s a big move, especially being one of the first in his family to do something like that. It shows he’s not about the bullshit, he’s about real impact. He’s got that entrepreneurial fire, and he crushed it. Since launching Jopwell, they’ve helped tens of thousands of minority professionals land internships and jobs at major companies. That’s not small potatoes.
