Living for Evan Dancer

Straight up, let me put you on to Evan Dancer. This guy’s the real deal. He’s one of those founders who’s been through the startup grind, crushed it, and kept it moving.

So, Evan jumped into the scene with Cribspot, which is a YC W15 alum, that’s the Winter 2015 batch. But get this, it wasn’t even called Cribspot at first. He started it as A2Cribs, and then rebranded, shows he’s got that hustle to refine and pivot until it clicks. The whole idea was about making off-campus housing easier for college students and property managers. Basically, he saw a problem and built a tech-powered solution to fix it. And man, he went all in. He was not just the founder but also the CTO and lead engineer. That’s a lot, managing the tech stacks like Ruby on Rails, Ember, React Native, all the hard work on the engineering side.

Cribspot grew to manage about 1,000 tenants at its peak. That’s no small feat, it’s proof he knows how to take an idea, build it out, and scale it enough to have real impact. But like all good stories, it had its chapter end, Cribspot shut down in 2018. But here’s where it gets interesting. Instead of calling it quits, Evan jumped into Apartment List as an Engineering Manager in SF. Stayed there for nearly four years, that’s some serious staying power, learning, and leveling up in the big leagues.

Talk to her

Before all that, he worked at Cisco and PeopleCube, so he’s got that solid enterprise background. That mix of startup hustle and big corps? That’s the sweet spot, gave him a wide view of what tech can do, from the ground up and top down.

But what really stands out about Evan? He’s not just about tech or startups. Dude’s a dad and a marathon runner, shows he’s got stamina, discipline, and knows how to balance big ambitions with life. And it’s clear he’s motivated by more than just building cool shit, he wants to solve real problems, make life easier, and push through the bullshit. Starting something, failing, learning, and then jumping into the future trend? That’s his vibe.

Long story short, Evan’s the kind of guy who’s been through the trenches, built something from nothing, and keeps pushing forward. He’s a tech guy with vision, grit, and that entrepreneurial spark that makes you go, “Holy shit, this guy’s just getting started.”
