Meet Garrett Beck
Yo, you gotta hear about Garrett Beck. This guy’s the real deal in the startup game. He’s been grinding since way back, and his story is just one of those things that make you think, “Yeah, this dude’s got it.” So, Garrett went to UC Berkeley, did the whole legal studies thing, boring on paper, but I swear, he’s not your average lawyer type. He’s all about jumping into stuff, figuring out how things work, then flipping the script.
Back in 2008, he was already dipping his toes in the biz world as a Sales Intern at Economic Business Alignment. Not glamorous, but it’s where he learned the ropes. Then, he jumped into inside sales at Trulia in 2010, so the guy’s out here hustling in real estate tech early on. That same year, he was a Law Clerk at Robinson, Calcagnie, & Robinson, probably sharpening his legal skills, but I bet he was already dreaming bigger. 2011, he took on a role as a Capital Asset Trader at CAE, which is basically trading industrial stuff, so he was getting his hands dirty with real capital, real markets.
Fast forward to 2012, he co-founded Applied and Integrated Capital Group, managing sales and biz dev across North America. That’s a big deal for someone in his early 20s. He was already showing he could build teams, sell, and move markets. But the real game changer? In 2013, he jumped into Y Combinator’s Summer batch with Asseta, his latest thing, and this one’s a beast.

Talk to herAsseta is basically an online marketplace for industrial spare parts and used capital equipment. Think about it, huge market, super fragmented, and Garrett saw a way to use tech to fix that. The company’s based out in Newport Beach now, keeps things lean, but they’re crushing it by making buying and selling industrial gear way easier. Backed by YC, Red Swan Ventures, Winklevoss Capital, Gil Penchina, these folks don’t throw money around unless you got something real.
What does this all say about Garrett? Man, he’s driven. He’s not about just chasing a paycheck or a fancy title. He’s about solving real problems, making markets more fast, and pushing tech into old-school industries. His process shows he’s got serious hustle and a no-bullshit attitude. He’s been around the block, learned how to sell, trade, and build from the ground up, then took all that experience and created something that actually changes the game.
Long story short? Garrett Beck is that guy who saw a huge, messy market and said, “Let’s fix this,” then went out and did it with a mix of smarts, hustle, and a bit of that Silicon Valley magic. He’s someone you want to keep an eye on, because this isn’t just startup fluff, this is the real deal.
