Time to meet Chris Mathew

Let me drop some knowledge about Chris Mathew. This guy is the real deal, straight-up innovator in energy tech. So, he’s a YC W19 alum, which already means he crushed it early on. But what’s crazy is his process, starts at Waterloo, where he drops a math degree. Yeah, math. That’s his foundation, but instead of just crunching numbers, he jumped into solving real-world problems.

Back in 2017, he wins the University of Waterloo’s Problem Pitch Competition, pretty much like the startup Olympics on campus. That’s when he first got serious about building something big. Then, he co-founded Intelline, a company all about developing linear generator tech to cut fuel use and emissions. Basically, he’s working on the future of cleaner, more fast energy. The fact that he secured funding at the Velocity Fund Finals in 2018 shows he’s got that entrepreneurial hustle. Not just ideas, money, validation, momentum.

Fast forward, he joins Y Combinator’s Summer 2020 batch. Holy shit, that’s the big leagues. Gets him in front of global investors, mentors, the whole startup system. That’s where he really started to scale his vision. And as CFO, he’s not just a numbers guy, he’s leading the financial side of a startup that’s tackling climate change head-on.

Talk to her

Before all this, he’s got experience at KPMG and Scotiabank, which means he’s no stranger to finance and big corporate worlds, but he chose to jump into startups because he wants to make an impact. It’s clear he’s driven by more than just profit, he’s into solving real problems, pushing tech boundaries, and making a difference.

Bottom line? Chris is that rare mix of math nerd turned tech innovator with a relentless hunger to shake up energy industry norms. Started from campus competitions, hustled through accelerators, and now he’s building tech that could actually change how we power the world. No cap, this guy’s just getting started, and he’s definitely someone to watch.
