He’s part of YC’s S08 batch, that’s Summer 2008, so he’s been around the block a bit. Back then, YC was just starting to blow up, and Joel was right there in the mix.

He co-founded this company called PlayReader with a guy named Karn Ratana. Honestly, I’d say it’s one of those classic startup stories, passion project, trying to crack a problem, see if they can make a dent. PlayReader was all about some kind of media or reading tech, but the crazy part? The company’s now listed as inactive. No employees, no big splash, but that’s not really the point here.
