Check out Jonathan Tang

Buckle up, cause I’m bout to tell you about Jonathan Tang, this guy’s a straight-up serial startup guy and investor who’s been crushing it for over a decade. He’s one of those folks who jumps into the deep end, figures shit out, and keeps moving. Total network wizard, but also super hands-on.

So, he rolled into the scene with YC back in S12, yeah, that’s a while ago, but it’s where he really cut his teeth. Since then, he’s been all over the place, founding and leading companies like Vastrm, which he’s been running as CEO, Secretary, and CFO since 2010. Basically, he’s the guy behind a custom apparel biz, no small feat, especially in the crazy world of fashion tech.

Before that, he built something pretty wild: Salesnet. It was one of the first on-demand CRM platforms, super ahead of its time. He was the founder, president, and CEO, and that thing got snapped up by RightNow Technologies, which was a big deal back then (later bought by Oracle). That move put him on the map as a legit tech founder who can build and sell.

But he didn’t stop there. After the sale, he went on to be VP of Sales Solutions at RightNow, kinda like his badge of honor, proving he knows how to scale and sell SaaS products. That’s the stuff that makes investors sit up, this guy’s got the experience, the network, and the hustle.

Fast forward, he’s now a Senior Venture Partner at Pioneer Fund, jumping into the VC game since 2017. He’s not just throwing money around, he’s actively mentoring startups, especially through Y Combinator’s Startup School, where he’s mentored over 50 founders globally. That’s some serious cred, not everyone can give back like that and help shape the next wave of tech.

And his investments? No cap, he’s all about fintech, marketplaces, food tech, SaaS, apparel. He’s invested in Rebellyous Foods, Solugen, and more, usually putting in $50K to $100K at pre-seed or seed stages. His reach is global, focusing on the US, Canada, Latin America, South Asia, Southeast Asia. So dude’s got a finger on the pulse worldwide.

What’s crazy is, his process is all about starting stuff, scaling it, then helping others do the same. His background shows he’s motivated by building real shit, not just chasing quick wins, but creating companies with impact. His experience with SaaS, food tech, apparel, and his hands-on approach tell me he’s driven by a passion for innovation and a love for the hustle.

He’s got a BA from Tufts, also attended Berklee and Deerfield Academy, so he’s got some solid roots, but his real story is about the grind, the network, and the ability to turn ideas into real companies. The guy’s a connector, a builder, a mentor, and an investor, all rolled into one.

In short, Jonathan Tang’s the real deal. If you’re into startups, VC, or just good stories of people who crushed it by being relentless, he’s the guy to watch.
